The Different Careers in Organ Transplant Coordination

There are many different career positions within the organ transplant field of medicine with the title “coordinator” most of which all require some sort of certification and formal education, below is a list of the different positions one should be familiar with when seeking a career as a coordinator in organ transplant. Often times they will be one and the same, just called something different at one facility vs another.

    • APRN (Advanced Practice Nurse)
      The APN’s (Advanced Practice RN) education and credentials empower them to provide a wider scope of services like percutaneous transplant biopsies, insertion of peripheral and central venous catheters and wound debridement as well as management of patients along their continuum of transplant care.

  • Transplant Financial Coordinator
    The TFC works with patients and their families beginning with the evaluation for transplantation and continuing through and after transplantation in order to assist with review of claims to determine if they are appropriate for payment from organ acquisition or by a patients insurance company. Assists financial & clinical administrators, physicians, and surgeons, and other medical management staff to achieve favorable reimbursement for clinical and professional services provided across specific patient population’s continuum of care.
